Featured String Works: The string sculptures are as much about the architecture and natural elements they accompany, as they are about there own formal presence. The walls, the floor, and the openings to outside all act as ballasts. Like the mountains or sea provide a foundation for cloud development, I see these spaces as providing a home or the element of place for these sculptures. These volumes that the strings collectively form, embody the life of the interior space. They respond to the wind and air currents, to the passage of light and time. There is a finite quality to these works that is evident from the moment I release them. Their delicate orchestration and sensitivity allows the material to live, and bloom into the space, accepting the inevitable deterioration of the materials. There is an emotional attachment that develops when we witness change and become aware of the individuality of each moment. To find the string installations tangled and stagnant after days of swimming in the wind is like understanding the residue of the journey that these strings have collected. I am not implying that these works are precious in any way but rather it is the experience and the fleeting imagery that can be valued.
